Happy Birthday Bob!

Another year, another countless hours spent listening to the amazing Bob Dylan. The older he and I get, the more magic I pull from his words. What a blessing to have his art created in our time!

Bruce Horsnby Honors Levon Helm

Taken from the New Orleans Jazz Fest a couple weeks ago, watch this marvelous tribute to the great Levon Helm from the also-great Bruce Hornsby. So nice!

Here is 6 long minutes of Art Garfunkel pontificating to the producer during the recording of his 1992 solo album. Now I completely understand why Paul Simon fled to Africa to do "Graceland"! I must be a total geek, because I loved every minute of this.

Summer's Here and the Time is Right!

Ok not exactly summer yet, but the warm temperatures in Wisconsin have gotten me into a Grateful Dead mood of late.

One of the best shows from an over-looked touring year, October 17, 1983 is a serious gem from Lake Placid, NY. A smoker from start to finish; the highlights include some epic Jerry, sleighing lengthy versions of "Sugaree", "Bird Song", and the always awesome "Terrapin Station". A sloppy encore of The Beatles "Revolution" is just icing on the cake. As a longtime listener and collector, this is honestly one of the greatest shows in their amazing 30 year history.

Crank it up nice and loud!!

Watch Jack White in Concert!

Easily one of the best albums of the year is the first solo album from Jack White. The album gets better and better with each listen and may be my favorite thing Jack has done to date.

And high on the heals of last weeks release comes this treat; a recent concert directed by none other then actor extraordinaire, Gary Oldman. Enjoy all the rocked out bliss below.

Fare Ye Well Levon

Last week we lost one of the true greats; Levon Helm. His unique voice was simply untouchable in terms of power, sweetness, and soul. I can't help but feel he was one of the few remaining links to a better, truer time in music. But based on all the outpouring from younger artists lamenting Levon's passing, I trust the toarch will continue to burn. No one can listen to that voice and not be moved!

Bob Dylan: “In response to Levon’s passing: He was my bosom buddy friend to the end, one of the last true great spirits of my or any other generation. This is just so sad to talk about. I still can remember the first day I met him and the last day I saw him. We go back pretty far and had been through some trials together. I’m going to miss him, as I’m sure a whole lot of others will too.”

Jeff Tweedy: “Levon was the glue, not just in The Band, but in all of what people think of when they think of North American music. He was a great unifier; a great glue. He unified blues and country, rural and city, and even North and South. Luckily he showed us all the way to keep it together and let it swing.”
